Medical & Disability Benefits |

Medical and disability benefits include the cost of treatment reasonably and necessarily incurred, by, or under the direct supervision of a registered person. Treatment must be warranted, beneficial to the person and curative of the person's injury. Such treatment includes:
- Medical or surgical*;
- Ambulance;
- Hospitalisation and associated services;
- Physiotherapy*;
- Chiropractic*;
- Osteopathic*;
- Naturopathic;
- Massage*;
- Psychological*;
- Optical; and
- Dental.
Together with the reasonable cost of:
- Medical aids, appliances and equipment;
- Alterations to buildings or vehicles; and
- Attendant care*.
* Fee schedules are in place.
Travel Allowance
The reasonable cost of travel for the purpose of obtaining treatment is payable where the distance travelled is greater than 20 kilometres one way. For injuries sustained on or after 23 November 2005, the cost of taxi fares for the purpose of obtaining treatment is payable for a period of 39 weeks from the date of injury if a medical practitioner certifies that taxi transport is required by reason of the injury.
The maximum total sum payable for medical and disability benefits is as follows:

A person who sustained catastrophic injuries in a motor accident which occurred on or after 28 June 1991 and who requires at least 2 hours or more personal care per day for an indefinite period (see 'Daily Care') may not be subject to any maximum sum.
